November 2007

Nov. 10 - APAA  Quarterly practical exams.
Nov. 10- Bharat Club Diwali Nite celebrations
Participants: Reyna George, Okeshi Nahar, Shikha Mohanty, Antara Singhania, Rose Chacko, Meyammai, Ritika Sibal, Vrushti, Jiss Chacko, Indra Thawani, Heena Gupta and Elsa George
Student Choreographer/Coach: Visha Kunasekaran
Nov.14 - Shikha Mohanty wins the first prize at Rama International school classical dance competition- she performed the Gowlai Pushpanjali composed by Madurai Sri. R. Muralidharan
Okeshi Nahar is placed Second  at the same competition performing an excerpt from the Simendramadhyamam Thillana
Nov.17 Second Unit Test for fast tackers (APAC)
Nov. 23-  Saibaba's Birthday celebrations at Nehru School

October 2007

Oct 20th - Saraswathi Pooja Celebrations at our class. On this auspicious occassion, students with outstanding performance during the academic year Oct 2006-Oct 2007 are honored with merit certificates. The awardees this year were:-
Intermediate 1-  Smrithi Sundararajan
Intermediate 2- Reyna George, Rose Anns Chacko, Meyammai.M and Ritika Sibal
Seniors- Visha Kunasekaran, Palak Garg and Okeshi Nahar.


September 2007

Sept. 8 - A Reception to Ibu Wali Kota at International Women's Club. Rose, Shylu and Reyna peform the Anjali, Alarippu and Natesa kavuthuvam.

Sept. 9 - Launch of the Alagappa Performing Arts Academy structured learning Program in collaboration with the Alagappa University, India; at Kinara, Jakarta.

Sept. 23- Shylu performs the Mahadeva Kavutuvam in Talent Nite organized by India Club, Jakarta.

July 2007

Visha Kunasekaran performs Simendramadhyamam Thillana at Mariamman Devasthanam in KL .

April 2007

Annual examinations were conducted on April 14th for all levels. The evaluated aspects included posture, rhythm, memory, theory, presentation and a level appropriate assignment. The top scorers for the various levels were as follows:-

 

 Juniors:

Smrithi- 91%

Shwetha- 90%

Reshma - 81%

 

 Intermediate

Reyna -92%

Shylu - 90%

Rose- 83%

 

 Seniors

Shreshta 90.5%

Visha - 89.5%

Okeshi- 89.5%

 

Under the Talent Promotion Concert series, Shreshta Mohnaty was featured on 21st April 2007.

 

March 2007

The intermediate appraisals were held on March 3rd.  The repertoire appraised included Anjali, Tisra Alarippu and Kavadi Chindu. Student appraisal was done by the senior students- Karishma Chopra, Palak Garg, Okeshi Nahar and Reyna George.

Karishma  Chopra and Palak Garg are commended for their exemplary appraisal skills.

Feb 2007

  • Reyna and Ritika peform for the " Mahashivarathri Bhajans" held at Nehru School, Bandung.
  • Palak and Ritika present a short Bharathanatyam presentation for the International Culture day at Bandung Alliance International School, Bandung, Indonesia
  • Shika and Okeshi presnt a short lec-dem titled " Navarasa in Indian Art Forms" at Rama International School, Purwakarta, Indonesia.

Jan 2007

  • Gautami wins the Senior Trophy in the dance competition held at Texmaco DPS School, Karawang , Indonesia.
  • Shylu( Meyammai) wins the Junior Trophy in the same event.

     Choreographic Works

    Little Red Riding Hood: The story of little Red Riding Hood was presented as a dance drama to elementary students of Bandung Alliance International school, Bandung as part of their curriculum "An Introduction to Indian Culture."( Nov 2000)

    The Ramayana Ballet (with Swati Tirunal's Bhavayami Raghuramam) . This was a production for the Indian Festival at Preanger, 2001
     

    MALLARI- an Indian and Balinese traditional dance jugalbandhi-2002

     
    Creation: A short choreography to Ghatam Karthick's RathipathiPriya  Thillana  (  2003)
     
    Tamasoma Satgamaya: This was a short ballet with peace as its central theme. Using the Gayathri Mantra, the dancers beseech the Supreme Goddesss to  lead the mankind, dispel the darkness in  times of confusion and terrorism and bring peace to the world. This ballet was presented at the  Indian Artists  Network  Painting exhibition Inauguration, Bharat Club Diwali Function, and at Nehru International school Family meet ( 2004)
     
    Ethnic Friction: A multimedia presentation for instrumental kavadi chindu. The choreography brings forth the essence of life in Indian Villages- a twist with Religious Fervour, Festivitites and Arts (2005)
     
    The Five Elements : This was a group presentation done in the presence of the Ambassador of Nigeria. It was done as a year end project of a  year long Bharathanatyam study implemented for std 1-6  at Rama International Schoool,Purwakarta, Indonesia . Here using one Panchanadai for each of the five elements, 50+ students , (both boys and girls) elaborated upon the charcteristics  of the Pancha Boodhas . The concept emphasises the need to maintain a constant universal balance to prevent natural calamities. ( June 2006)
